MVA FUND HOSTS TRAUMA MANAGEMENT CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP FOR CHOBE DISTRICT HEALTH MANAGEMENT TEAM IN KASANE
The Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA Fund) is hosted a two-day training workshop on Basic Life Support in Kasane from 21st to 22nd May 2025. The training was exclusively designed for healthcare professionals within the Chobe District Health Management Team (DHMT). This strategic outreach initiative is a collaboration between the Fund, Ministry of Health and Boitekanelo College. The training aimed to:
- Enhance Trauma Response Skills: Strengthen the capacity of healthcare professionals in providing efficient and effective trauma response services, ultimately improving patient recovery and outcomes.
- Foster Collaborative Partnerships: Strengthen working relationships between MVA Fund and key stakeholders within the Chobe DHMT to promote coordinated emergency response efforts.
- Raise Awareness of MVA Fund Products & Services: Educate participants about the comprehensive range of MVA Fund services, including road safety initiatives, compensation benefits, and rehabilitation programs.
The workshop attracted health care professionals comprising of emergency medical service personnel covering Chobe Area, doctors and nurses based in Kasane and peripheral clinics such as Parakarungu and Kachikau. In giving the welcome remarks on the respective days Ag. Council Secretary Ms Bazwadzi Gaotingwe and the Council secretary Mr J. Segopa both expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Fund for organizing this training particularly for their region citing that although geographically far in location it shows they are not forgotten and urged the participants to embrace the knowledge and skills acquired to improve trauma care response and management in their area.
As the workshop unfolded, participants were taught basic life support protocols and techniques. They also engaged in hands-on practicals with return demonstrations on how to perform high-quality Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for victims of all ages—both as single rescuers and as part of a multi-rescuer team. The training also covered how to respond to choking and other types of life-threatening emergencies.
This impactful training is expected to make a significant difference in saving lives, reducing injury-related complications, and improving the recovery of road traffic accident victims—ultimately giving them the best chance at a normal life!
