MVA FUND COMMEMORATES THE WORLD DAY OF REMEBRANCE FOR ROAD TRAFFIC VICTIMS

The Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund commemorated the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims (WDoR), which is observed worldwide on the 16th of Sunday November 2025. In alignment with this global remembrance, the Fund held its own internal commemorative session on Tuesday, 18 November 2025. The global theme for this year’s commemoration was “Lost Talents”, reflecting the potential, dreams, and contributions that our nation continues to lose to road traffic crashes.

“Today’s commemoration is not only about remembrance, but also about recognition. As MVA Fund we recognize the critical and emotionally demanding work carried out by the Fund staff across the country. Your unwavering commitment ensures that every victim and every family member receive the empathy, dignity, and support they deserve. This dedication is the backbone of our mission to restore hope and rebuild lives”, said Mr Michael Tlhagwane, Chief Executive Officer of MVA Fund when delivering his welcome remarks.

On his part, the guest Speaker, Mr. Moagi Gaborone, Cluster Lead Health Promotion & Social Determinants from the World Health Organization in Botswana indicated that road safety is a shared responsibility. Every driver, passenger, and pedestrian must act with awareness and consideration for others. Using the road means looking beyond yourself, anticipating risks, and speaking up when safety is compromised. Every life lost is a talent lost, so let’s keep reminding ourselves and others: safe behaviour on the road saves lives, he added.

When giving closing remarks, Ms. Angela Webb, the Senior Manager Corporate Communications highlighted that this commemoration is a great reminder to commit to the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021–2030, aiming to cut road fatalities by 50% by 2030. She further urged participants to work together to make our roads safer and prevent unnecessary loss of life and a safer future for all.
