Who is covered?
Any person injured in a road crash within the borders of Botswana is eligible to be covered up to a maximum of P1,000,000.00 in benefits as defined in the MVA Fund Act of 2007. However, a negligent party’s claim is limited to P 300,000.00 and only to the extent of Medical Treatment and Rehabilitation.
In terms of the MVA Fund Act No. 15, 2007, every person who is a citizen or resident of Botswana will receive full coverage but subject to the applicable legal limitations
If you are a non-citizen and you’re injured in a road accident during your visit to Botswana, subject to the provisions of the Act. MVA Fund only covers treatment and rehabilitation costs while you are in Botswana, it is therefore not a replacement for travel insurance and does not cover illness, disrupted travel plans or emergency travel to get you back home.
Every person who drives a foreign registered motor vehicle shall upon entry into Botswana, pay third party cover at the border
