COMMUNITY ROAD SAFETY PROGRAMMES

In recognition that the community plays an important role in the promotion of road safety, the Fund through its Community Road Safety Grant Scheme initiative incentivise the civic community to actively participate in road safety promotion. The civic community is encouraged to form road safety clubs and groups which will come up with road safety projects relevant to their locality. The scheme provides technical and financial support for the implementation of community road safety projects. This is done through the following initiatives;

Community Groups-There are currently 7 active community groups from Goodhope, Thamaga, Gaborone, Mmankgodi and Mahalapye. The groups use theatre, kgotla meetings, farmers’ workshops, bus stops, shopping malls, sports tournament, schools, health facilities, churches and social media as platforms to disseminate road safety messages within their localities.

Youth Road Safety Clubs – These are road safety clubs formed by youth who are out of school but concerned with road safety issues within their localities. The Fund has to date partnered with more than 20 youth clubs across the country.

School Road Safety Clubs – In a bid to groom a road risk conscious generation, the Fund continues to promote road safety within schools by encouraging and supporting formation of road safety clubs.
